The village was formed in approximately 1046 by the Abbot of Dunfermline for the purpose of ferrying Queen Margaret across the Forth on her way to Edinburgh via St. Edward's Bay. Apart from lots of history the village has lovely restaurants dating back to 1750, and many more attractions nearby for golfers "The Kingdom of Fife Golf Trail".
